    Strats 

    Goldman Sachs’ Strats business unit is a world leader in developing quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems. Working within the firm’s trading, sales, banking and investment management divisions, strats use their mathematical and scientific training to create financial products, advise clients on transactions, measure risk, and identify market opportunities.

     

    Roles within Securities Strats

     

    Securities Strats play important roles in several areas. Some Strats sit on trading desks, creating cutting-edge derivative pricing models and developing empirical models to provide insight into market behavior. Others develop automated trading algorithms for the firm and its clients, taking an active part in the increasing shift from voice to electronic trading. A third group works directly with the firm’s sales force and clients, analyzing exposures, structuring transactions, and applying quantitative concepts to meet client needs. Between these teams, Core Strats design and develop complex parallel computing architectures, electronic trading tools, and advanced algorithms.

The work involves developing a thorough understanding of the full range of investment products and strategies offered by the firm, an ability to capture the characteristics of those investments in mathematical models and the creation of infrastructure to make those analyses reusable and scalable across our businesses.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Job Summary & Responsibilities:-


    The Prime Services Strats group in Securities Strats is an instrumental part of various desks in the Prime Brokerage of Goldman Sachs. Prime Services Strats are heavily engaged in the following areas:


    Stock loan funding

    • Working as part of the securities lending trading desk to conduct transactions and manage risk
    • Building and maintaining trading and inventory management platforms
    • Developing financial models to optimally fund the prime brokerage
    • Identifying trade opportunities systematically
    • Automating manual processes

    Risk

    • Working with risk managers
    • Developing and maintaining stress test (equity, credit, interest rate, foreign exchange, volatility, liquidity)
    • Modelling of margin methodology and calculation of margin requirements

    Client Analytics

    • Working with sales team
    • Develop external and internal client performance metrics

    In all areas of Prime Services huge amounts of data are generated on a daily basis. In order to fully leverage these datasets in conjunction with market data and other internal data points within the Securities Division, the Prime Services Strat group is looking to hire a data scientist. Signals derived from these datasets will help to improve processes and provide enhanced market color to senior management and clients.Apart from being tightly integrated in the global Prime Services team, the data scientist will work closely with other data scientists in the Securities Division.

     

    Basic Qualifications:-

    • Strong academic background in a relevant field - mathematics, statistics, engineering, or computer science, including a strong quantitative understanding of statistics and probability
    • Extensive understanding of key analytics methods (e.g. machine learning techniques)
    • Practical experience in applying cutting-edge statistical techniques to large, complex datasets in order to solve business problems
    • Strong programming skills in C++, Java, or equivalent language
    • Ability to work as part of a global team and deliver results quickly
    • Ability to solve technical problems and explain the underlying ideas to a non-technical audience

    Preferred Qualifications:-

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of financial markets or financial mathematics a plus
    • ~2 years of experience
