Risk Division Overview The Risk Division is charged with managing the firm’s credit, market, liquidity, and operational risk. The Merchant Banking Division (“MBD”) within Goldman Sachs (“GS”) is a $140 billion alternatives investment platform with strategies across equity, credit, and real estate investing. The Energy and Infrastructure team manages $9 billion of equity investments across both corporate equity funds, infrastructure funds as well as the GS balance sheet. This team takes a highly differentiated, holistic approach to energy and infrastructure investing and evaluates opportunities across sectors including, renewable energy, clean technology and decarbonization, traditional oil & gas, conventional power generation, industrial / essential services, transportation, and telecommunications. Access to multiple pockets of capital allows the team to evaluate a wide range of risk / return profiles and investment types, including leveraged buyouts, management build-ups, greenfield projects, growth capital and structured securities.   The private equity strategy of MBD is currently investing from a ~$7 billion corporate equity fund and ~$3 billion infrastructure fund. The Synthetic Product Group (SPG) business offers institutional and hedge fund clients products which are optimal with respect to tax, balance sheet and funding.
